DIY Lip Scrub

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is doing well with this fresh start, and, if you just stumbled upon my blog and this post – then welcome! Welcome to my blog, Mindful Living, created by me, Katerina Haros.

Today I want to share something I’ve been needing recently, something that connects to the “me” time I’m sure all of us have made as our 2021 New Year’s Resolutions. I have been pushing myself to add more “me” time in my life. I’m proud of myself because I feel like I’ve at least taken steps towards this by adapting a new skincare routine! I have been getting much more into my skincare and the products I use. I’ve been taking time each morning and night to prioritize my skin and give it the nutrients and care it needs. (Checkout my, “Skincare Routine + Product Review” blog post if you haven’t yet). I hope all of you are able to prioritize yourself and give your body the love and care it deserves this new year!

I wanted to share this because there has been something I haven’t been prioritizing, and that’s my recently chapped lips! I know, seems like a small frustration, but with the weather getting colder and colder, my lips have been getting chapped far more easily. I thought the best way to combat this would be with a homemade lip scrub! You can buy lip scrubs premade but they’re pretty expensive and not as natural as the ones you can make from just the items in your pantry. I made two lip scrubs today that I can’t wait to share with you.

For the jars, I used two, old, jelly jars I had washed out and been saving for a cute DIY like this one! You can also use old skincare jars/containers and wash them out. I’ll have a few other container options for you to checkout below.

The day I made these lip scrubs, I poured myself a glass of wine, put on a face mask and used my lip scrub. We all need a little self care and this is the perfect step towards that in a small way and – you’ll be saving your lips from this winter season.

Lip Scrub #1: Cinnamon Lip Scrub

  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Vaseline (or Coconut oil)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

Lip Scrub #2: Spearmint Lip Scrub

  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Vaseline (or Coconut oil)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 3-5 drops of spearmint essential oil

  1. Mix the ingredients in a small bowl until they are thoroughly coated throughout the petroleum jelly.
  2. Scoop the lip scrub into your mini container/jar and seal the lid.
  3. Done!

To Apply:

  1. Scoop a small amount of the scrub on your index finger (pea sized amount).
  2. Lightly rub in circular motions onto your lips to exfoliate them and rub off any loose dead skin.
  3. Wipe the scrub off. Don’t scrub it off with water, we want the Vaseline still on your lips.

Let me know if you liked this super simple DIY and if you gave it a try! Want more beauty DIYs? Comment below some you would like to see.
